We suspect that peak-hour rates will be increased and peak-hours extended. A merger with Delta is likely to add traffic during busy periods and further decrease safety or increase delays or both if the hub remains here. Since 2000, the MSP Air Traffic Control Tower has allowed higher rates here and at Chicago O'Hare than at other hubs. Some delays are the result of maintaining safe aircraft separations and closing rates around MSP, but various changes, such as dispersed departures, increase noise and pollution.
